The National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations to Human Rights documented 4,368 cases of alleged violations in Yemen during the period from 1 February to 31 July 2018.
The total cases, which were documented and investigated by the commission, related to violations of international humanitarian law, involving 1,045 cases of civilians who were killed and injured. 392 civilians were killed, including 42 women and 92 children, and 653 injured, including 148 children and 75 women.
The responsibility for this type of violation is shared by all parties to the armed conflict. 195 civilians were killed and 491 others injured by the Houthi militia and 197 civilians were killed and 162 others injured by Saudi-led coalition airstrikes and legitimate forces.
In addition, the commission investigated 58 alleged cases of child recruitment by the Houthi militia and 94 cases of civilians who were killed and injured by anti-personnel and vehicle landmines (61 civilians were killed and 79 injured). Moreover, there were 864 cases of forced deportation by the Houthi militia.
In a press conference, the national commission announced a special report about the prisons and detentions in Yemen during the war. The report documented 3,697 cases of arbitrary detention, torture and enforced disappearance committed by parties to the armed conflict. 3,036 cases were committed by the Houthi militia and its previous ally Saleh and 661 cases were committed by the legitimate government and coalition forces.
The commission recommended in the special report of prisons and detentions to stop detaining civilians arbitrarily, close all illegal detentions, and ensure accountability for acts of torture.
